The name KAJUKENBO pays respect to the five arts that went into it's creation. KA (Korean Karate), JU (Ju-Jitsu & Judo), KEN (Wawaiian Kenpo) and BO (Chinese Boxing).

Kajukenbo originated from Hawaii. It was created during the years from 1947 - 1949 after WWII. At that time traditional Martial Arts were restricitive, and didn't allow free thought and expansion for the practitioners. So that's why five men came together and made a new Martial Art from 5 existing ones for Hawaii, especially the streets of Hawaii.

The five men were:

• Walter Choo (Tang So Do)
• Clarence Chang (Sil Lum Gung Fu)
• Joe Holck ( Danzan Ryu Judo and Ju Jitsu)
• Adriano Emperado (Kosho Ryu Kenpo)
• Frank Ordonez ( Danzan Ryu Ju Jitsu)
